Margate, New Jersey is famous for its historic 65 foot wooden elephant, Lucy the Margate Elephant, but in summertime, the Margate beaches attract enthusiastic crowds of bathers, as well. With its protected bathing beginning on June 28th, Margate has a dozen beaches as well as beaches for Kayaking and surfing. Hobie Cat sailing is permitted with a permit, too. Beach Badges are required the 3rd week in June through Labor Day.
